Are you feeling lonely when it comes to driving toward greater environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance for your company?
We understand!
When EnSafe began working with a new client in Texas to ensure his firm was in EHS compliance, the client’s point-of-contact (POC) expressed frustration at the challenges and resistance he was facing from his colleagues. While the POC himself is EHS savvy, it became abundantly clear to him that the company and his colleagues were not EHS savvy and also did not understand why that was problematic.
“No! I don’t have anyone else to talk about this stuff. No one at my company understands why I am doing the things I am doing.”
That’s how the POC responded when EnSafe’s Senior Compliance Specialist suggested they put their conversation on hold to not cause additional consternation, having realized just how dejected and overwhelmed the POC was by the work that lay before him to bring the company into compliance. Not only was the work extensive, but the POC knew he would continue to meet resistance from his colleagues who did not understand why any of it mattered.
“That particular moment spoke volumes,” said our Senior Compliance Specialist later about the POC’s emphatic response. “It reminded me that EnSafe’s technical staff are more than just experts. We’re sometimes sounding boards who are there to lend an empathetic ear to overwhelmed clients who need one.”
We’re here for just that! Often times our soft skills are equally as or more important than our technical acumen. The ability to listen and ask the right questions, to gain our clients’ professional and personal trust and offer ourselves as trusted advisors is just what good consultants do.
Need some EHS compliance support? Or just need a listening ear?
