Health & Safety / Industrial Hygiene Services for Public Utility
EnSafe provides comprehensive industrial hygiene (IH) services to a public utility under two successively awarded five-year contracts. IH services are provided during normal plant operations, outages, and other construction projects at four nuclear plants, 11 fossil plants, and 33 hydroelectric plants.
EnSafe assists the client and its partners with employee-complaint investigations; trains personnel on IH topics (heat stress, asbestos, IH sampling); evaluates non-routine IH concerns and suspected releases of hazardous materials; provides analytical services to support air sampling activities; and actively supports each Outage Manager and Partner Safety Manager as his or her IH consultant.
Services are provided in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, and Virginia.
We also conduct routine and non-routine IH surveys and baseline assessments of numerous fossil, hydro, and nuclear facilities; baseline air sampling for coal dust, fly ash, silica, respirable/total particulates, welding fumes, ammonia, asbestos, metals, and hexavalent chromium; ventilation surveys of lab hoods, welding fume canopy hoods, local exhaust ventilation trunk lines, and Battery Rooms; Grade D breathing air analysis; sound-pressure level surveys, personal noise dosimetry, and octave-band analysis of high-noise areas; and asbestos, arsenic, and lead paint inspections and bulk sampling.
EnSafe also has performed emergency response services for this utility.
Services Provided
- Air sampling for metals, particulates, asbestos, polychlorinated biphenyls, and volatile organics
- Development of sampling protocol/strategy for each outage and IH sampling event
- Personal sampling to determine representative employee exposures and establish negative exposure
- Respirator fit-testing and training
- Ventilation surveys of boilers during outages and of hoods
- Monitoring of physical hazards (e.g., noise, heat, illumination)
- Evaluating effectiveness of engineering controls and personal protective equipment
