Ecological Services for State Transportation Agency
EnSafe evaluated ecological resources for 47 linear roadway projects for the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). Ecological services included identifying natural resources — perennial and intermittent streams, wet weather conveyances, wetlands, springs, ponds, caves, etc. — that could be impacted by road construction within the proposed rights-of-way.
Wetlands identified within TDOT project zones were subsequently delineated. In addition, project zones were surveyed for habitats that could contain threatened and endangered species listed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Reports included aerial photographs showing locations of natural resources identified, data sheets listing each resource, habitat assessment data sheets, and photographs.
In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, design documents were reviewed, and potential impacts on natural resources were evaluated. Forms and reports were developed to facilitate the projects, which ranged from small to large bridge replacements, new state industrial access roads, and lengthy linear highway-widening/improvements.
