Award-Winning GIS Portal (ArcGIS Server 9.2) for the City of Memphis
EnSafe engineered the Geographic Information System (GIS) transformation that won the City of Memphis a 2008 "Special Achievement in GIS" award from ESRI, Inc., the world leader in GIS modeling and mapping software and technology.
With EnSafe’s information technology consulting assistance, the City of Memphis has transformed the way it leverages GIS technology. The new model aligns and integrates GIS within the city’s business processes via an Enterprise GIS based on ArcGIS Server 9.2 Enterprise Advanced. Solutions stemming from this transformation have dramatically extended the use of GIS beyond traditional users to non-technical users as well as the public.
All levels of access, from desktop software, intranet and internet applications, to mobile clients are able to quickly perform complex GIS tasks using simple web interfaces. Call-center staff use a custom location validation interface to verify addresses and parcel locations when taking service requests. Organization decision-makers as well as the public use the Analysis Tool to analyze their own tabular data.
Independent data files related to spatial features — parcels, political jurisdictions, or service area districts — are used to generate thematic maps that can be printed, emailed, or exported for presentations. The Enterprise GIS is the bridging technology that enables the various city databases and systems to connect seamlessly, enhancing efficiency throughout the organization.
