Claire Barnett Named to the Elite SAME Academy of Fellows
EnSafe's Claire Barnett, PE, in the Memphis office has been named to the prestigious Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Class of 2012 "Academy of Fellows" for her outstanding service to the professional organization and contribution to the engineering profession.
Claire has been an active member of SAME since becoming EnSafe's sustaining member representative to the Memphis Post in 2001. Since then, she has chaired multiple committees and served in leadership roles for the Memphis post, including Post Director, First Vice-President and President. Claire has also actively mentored young SAME members to develop them into the engineering workforce of the future through leadership and professional development. Mentoring is an important part of the SAME Academy of Fellows' mission and plays a large role in the Fellows' selection process.
"Since 1972, SAME has bestowed the designation of Fellow on SAME members who have rendered dedicated and outstanding service to SAME and to military engineering. In 1995, this group of distinguished individuals was organized into the Academy of Fellows to bring all Fellows together to further SAME's mission and goals," explains the SAME website, www.same.org. In addition to their active involvement in SAME, Fellow nominees are also evaluated based on their overall involvement in professional engineering organizations, as well as work performed on military engineering projects.
In addition to SAME, Claire has also been actively involved in and served in leadership roles with the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the Girl Scout Council of the Mid-South. Claire has also managed and worked on numerous environmental engineering projects for the U. S. Navy, Air National Guard, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as well as many municipalities and industries throughout the U.S.
To be named to the Academy of Fellows, a member must be nominated by another member, and the nominations are then reviewed by the Academy's Nominations Committee. The list of candidates is then submitted to SAME's Executive Committee, who then sends their finalists to the SAME Board of Directors for approval. The class of 2012 has 37 new Fellows, with 36 from across the U.S. and one from Europe.
"I'm honored to be selected to the SAME Academy of Fellows," said Claire. "It's nice to be recognized by my peers and I appreciate all the work and support from the Memphis Post board and members who made this possible for me."
