March 5, 2009 --
EnSafe Inc. won its 12th Engineering Excellence award since 1999 in the American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee’s 2009 Engineering Excellence competition. ACEC recognized firms for projects demonstrating a high degree of achievement, value, and ingenuity on March 3, 2009, at a ceremony in Franklin, Tennessee.
EnSafe won the competition’s environmental category with its entry for the brownfields remediation of the Smarthouse Way Southern Tract, performed for Main Street Argenta, a nonprofit organization focused on revitalizing the central business district of North Little Rock, Arkansas.
EnSafe and Ops Contracting Services, LLC (OCS), teamed to expedite the remediation of the 5.8-acre Brownfield site using risk-based methods and turnkey construction services. EnSafe and OCS’ negotiations and innovations achieved project closure in record time and reduced originally estimated costs by 48%.
This expedited cleanup paves the way for meeting Main Street Argenta’s goal of enhancing economic revitalization in downtown North Little Rock by drawing residents to a prime location that formerly was an environmental liability.
Brownfields are abandoned or underused industrial and commercial facilities available for reuse but whose redevelopment may be complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. The Main Street Argenta Brownfield cleanup was conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.
