Johnathan Hanson of EnSafe Inc.'s Cleveland, Ohio, office will be among presenters
at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) sixth biennial Freshwater
Spills Symposium (FSS) in Portland, Oregon, May 2-4, 2006. EnSafe is a key planning
partner on the symposium's design team.
Mr. Hanson will present An Inspector's Photographic
Journey of How Not to Manage an Oil and Hazardous Substance Spill Prevention and
Response Program.
The FSS offers an opportunity for local, state, federal, and industry responders,
natural resource trustees and managers, facility response planners, and other stakeholders
to engage in an exchange targeted at the unique problems presented by freshwater
oil spills.
Established in 1996, the FSS emphasizes the frequently understated impact
of oil spills in inland water bodies. These spills have a higher potential for endangering
the public and the environment since they generally occur close to populated or
biologically sensitive areas where they can threaten drinking water, wildlife, and
environmentally sensitive areas.
FSS encourages the transfer of technology, promotes
the exchange of new ideas, and provides a forum for discussion of issues regarding
freshwater oil spills through a series of individual presentations and panel discussions.
Mr. Hanson supports EnSafe's contingency and response planning efforts for Department
of Defense (DOD) facilities as well as for industrial clients. Mr. Hanson is an
environmental scientist who supports EnSafe's contract with the Defense Logistics
Agency's Defense Energy Support Center, through the Petroleum Partners Joint Venture
(PPJV).
Under this contract, the PPJV provides worldwide DOD capitalized fuel storage
facilities with contingency planning and spill response training and exercises in
accordance with applicable regulations, standards, and practices of USEPA, U.S.
Coast Guard, Office of Pipeline Safety, and DOD.
