Secretary of the Navy Award Recognizes EnSafe's Achievements
EnSafe Inc. has won its second Secretary of the Navy Award, recognizing achievements in environmental restoration work at a U.S. Navy installation in Florida. EnSafe won the same award in 2000 for environmental restoration at a Navy weapons plant in Texas.

The Fiscal Year 2005 Secretary of the Navy Environmental Restoration Individual or Team Award went to the Naval Air Station Pensacola Environmental Restoration Team, of which EnSafe is a member. This team also won the precursor Chief of Naval Operations Award.

The nomination for the NAS Pensacola project cited the team's protection of the public and the environment through fast-track responses, innovative remedial technology, and active partnering with regulators and the community. More than $6 million in restoration cost-savings were realized.

EnSafe conducted multiple remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and removal actions at NAS Pensacola, which was placed on the National Priorities List in 1989. EnSafe implemented investigations under the Navy's Installation Restoration Program beginning in 1992. EnSafe provided additional technical support when the facility was realigned under Congress' Base Closure and Realignment initiative. EnSafe performed this work under a 13-year, $160 million contract with Southern Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

The project is managed by EnSafe Vice President Paul Stoddard, PG, as principal in charge, and Allison Harris as project manager. Other team members include Navy personnel, contractors, and federal and state representatives.

EnSafe first won the FY 2000 Secretary of the Navy and Chief of Naval Operations Environmental Restoration awards in the individual/team category for the remediation of perchlorate contamination in soil and groundwater at Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant McGregor in Texas.
