| An incident that requires the
implementation of business continuity plans may take many forms other than
those commonly referred to as crises or disasters, and may often occur with
considerable forewarning.
This may still prevent the accomplishment of your organization's mission
as well as cause a major business interruption or even the total loss or
destruction of a division or business unit. Natural disasters such as
hurricanes, floods, etc. are often predictable; fires, supply disruptions,
disasters at sole source vendors, production accidents and spikes, etc. are
not. All can have a devastating effect on an organization that is not
pro-active and not prepared.
The processes necessary and relating to information restoration,
executive and employee relocations, transition to alternate work sites,
emergency power, alternate vendors, transportation issues, etc. are best
addressed in complete business continuity plans that have been thoroughly
tested, are in place, understood by all personnel, and "ready to go".
